Description
The word Gabbeh translates to ‘unfinished or unclipped’. When making these rugs the weavers leave the pile long. Our Gabbeh range includes Natural Gabbeh where shades of undyed yarns create the pattern. ‘Retro and Modern Gabbehs’ are contemporary patterns in unusual colour combinations. ‘Stripey Gabbeh’ is covered in dashes of different coloured narrow stripes on a cream background. ‘Colour Gabbeh’ is one colour with shades of the same colour in different intensities throughout the rug.
Natural Gabbeh in which the various shades of undyed yarns create the pattern. The colours range from various intensities of ivory, beiges, browns and greys. A recent development has been the introduction of our ‘Retro and Modern Gabbehs’ displaying more contemporary patterns in unusual colour combinations. The stripe or ‘Stripey Gabbeh’ is literally as the word promises, covered in dashes of different coloured narrow stripes on a cream background. The ‘Colour Gabbeh’ is in one colour with variations or Abrash effect of the same colour shaded in different intensities flowing through out the rug. This shade variation is known as ‘Abrash’ and is created almost as a beautiful imperfection due to the differing starting shades of natural fleece, as well as the slightly uneven handspun yarns during the dyeing process.
